A Detailed Look at Your Baby’s Health – Before Birth
The TIFFA scan (Targeted Imaging for Fetal Anomalies) is one of the most important ultrasounds done during pregnancy. Also known as the anomaly scan, it is usually performed between 18 to 22 weeks of pregnancy to take a close look at your baby’s development.
This scan helps detect any physical abnormalities in the baby and ensures everything is growing as it should be.
During the TIFFA scan, the doctor carefully examines:
Baby’s brain, spine, heart, stomach, kidneys, face, and limbs
Placenta position and amniotic fluid levels
Gender of the baby (if legally permissible and opted by the parents)
Cervix and uterus to assess pregnancy risks
It can help identify structural issues like:
Cleft lip or palate
Heart defects
Limb deformities
Neural tube defects (like spina bifida)
This scan is vital for:
Detecting fetal abnormalities early
Monitoring the baby’s growth and position
Checking the health of the placenta and umbilical cord
Planning safe and appropriate care throughout the rest of the pregnancy
Early detection allows your doctor to recommend further tests, treatments, or follow-ups, if needed.
